Q. Okay. Can you, can you describe for me, I have a difficult time understanding, what would prevent someone buying it as a residential property for $100,000 or less, as you say, and turn it into a commercial piece of property.
A. We’re not going to sell a home for less than $100,000 for someone to buy it to turn it into a commercial property. That would, that would prevent it.
Q. Because you won’t sell?
A. We will sell. We’re not going to sell the home — our mortgage, I believe, is about $115,000. We’re not going to sell a home for less than what our mortgage is and take a loss. And I don’t believe and I don’t think there’s anybody in this room that would want to live across the street from a Wal-Mart.

As a SCREAMING agnostic liberal I am about as far from being a “Bushie” as one can get.
Mark…do you need a new shovel? Surely the one you’re using in this episode to dig your hole is getting a little worn at this point.
I want NO PART of your “Overthrow” talk. Does the Secret Service know about you? SERIOUSLY!
Let’s move on to the next question please?
I knew it… George Bush is keeping Wal-Mart from erecting the sound barrier… and that dastardly devil Dick Cheney, too… EEEEEVVVVIIIILLLLLLL!!!
“Only a liberal expects SOMEONE ELSE to allow them to do what they want!”
…Only an idiot expects SOMEONE ELSE to pay $350,000 for a property that would appraise around $80,000 (I’m being kind here).
…Only an idiot expects lawfully elected politicians and major conglomerates to pay to remediate a situation that he has only made worse by his incessant harrassment of those institutions.
…Only an idiot expects sympathy from a community that he has alienated by lambasting its institutions and patrons (the mistake of an angry, foolish outsider).
I could go on, but I’m going to give my compatriots here a shot at crafting their own.
…Only an idiot would allow his dog to run loose in the neighborhood and next to busy roadway with excessive traffic going above the speed limit.
GOW: I am a simple man that only needs the standard silver tape. My head is still spinning.
Mark, you would be a fool not to understand that people want change and they are tired of the machine that slowed down the pace of the Obama machine that was elected. This is a nation of young, up and coming professionals that are tired of the status quo. The revolution began with the election of Obama. If you cannot accept this, then get off the train because this nation is going to change.
Arlen Specter in PA is a good example of this. The old regime is withering and has become ineffective so he changed sides. More need to change including those in Obama’s party as well. Soon they will change as well, but I think the nation will swallow a real pill first.
Grow up Mark and quit being so damned self centered. And I do not believe that the noise coming from WalMart and the traffic it generates is any louder than the noise from the construction yard next door.
Well Mark, you being a liberal explains most of this. Although I know a lot of middle of the road liberals that are awesome, and don’t think like you, thank goodness!
I did vote for Bush both times, and I am not an idiot. I did not believe in the second election, that it was appropriate to remove a Presidential Cabinet and The President in a time of war, conflict, whatever you want to call it. Regardless of the fact if it was justified, because our citizens, our soldiers were over their putting their life on the line, following orderd.
That’s the one of the only reasons he got my vote in the second election. Plus the other party had no one very smart at the time that could have actually continued combat operations without a royal screw up.
I voted for Ron Paul in the last election, but only because he has furry eyebrows. No other reason. They seemed to show wisdom…..
As a conservative. Even though I disagree with about 80% of what comes out of Obamas mouth, I still support our president, regardless of his political party. This is the United States. So who cares what political party he belongs too and if I agree. I would take a bullet, just like the Secret Service, to protect the man, because that’s the way it is suppose to be.
The majority elected him, then he is my president too.
Just like the majority elected the officials in Hurricane, and the County officials, they deserve the same respect and support because the majority elected them, FROM YOU.
Now, I KNOW MARK will not understand my logic in this post, but I hope, GoWs, Mr Hollywood, CGarison, Peachy, Paige, and General Winfield will. I have done given up trying to understand your logic and reasoning, plus your cognitive skills Mark….
I am not going to get into a political argument here. Instead, I am going to stay on the topic at hand. So that’s all I have to say about that…..
However, for the betterment of society, and to help out the Citizens of this county, I will continue to assist in trying to show you the light.
Funny how you think I am a liberal. In fact, moderate is more accurate as I am pro-life, against the food tax, and against government competing against the private sector as the PCDA did with the Walmart land sale.
We could debate politics all night. However, this is fact: SEVERAL Real Estate people have told me that had it not been for the recession, our property would have been bought out. And had it not been for the conservatives in Putnam County voting in Lisa “Club Fed” Smith several years ago, instead of Walmart we would have a quiet office park across the street and a satellite university campus.
Jesus… Why do we have to change the subject. Everybody please shut up about politics and focus on the important stuff.
Like how obese is Mark Hallburn?
When will the true owner of his property speak up, his mother in law?
When will Mark let an independent appraiser appraise his property?
When will Mark explain why he removed his walmart diary off of his site?
I bet after having you, your mom probably wishes she wasn’t prolife… Just a guess
That you would still find something to gripe about……regardless of how quiet it was….
These are words of liberal thought:
“Huge, artificial stock market which went in the tank when gas went above $4 a gallon and most of America ran out of spending money.
Then there’s the BILLIONS wasted on the bogus Iraq War. (Still looking for those WMDs Bush/Cheney! Oh, that’s right, you ARE the WMDs!).
Finally, Bush/Cheney failed to defend America against the 9/11 attacks, costing THOUSANDS of lives and another hit against the economy.
You call me an idiot. The only idiots are those that voted for Bush/Cheney and believe Rush Limp-Balls and his little blue pills!”
Actually, those are extreme liberal thought words Mark.
However, I will forgive you. I know that you really don’t know that much about anything, much less the political system and thought processes related to them.
“When will Mark let an independent appraiser appraise his property?”
This is what I want to know.
Mark, when?
How about you go ahead and list the property on Craigslist, Mark? That’s free, after all. Couldn’t hurt, right?
Ebay.
He has to find someone out of town to buy it. No one in this state will.
Was it Mark Twain who advised never to argue with a fool because the onlookers might not know the difference?

TW:
Good point…but it’s fun!
Hurricane Resident: 2 time Bush voter here. The first time because he was the lesser of two evils. The second time because there really was not a choice on the other side of the ticket so why change horses mid-stream.
I have to admit that I suffered from severe voters remorse after that 2004 election. This time, we voted for change and by God, we are going to get it.
I am just a bit scared about my next car being the size of a Yugo instead of a Party Barge…… But I digress.

I think Bush was a victim of history. Many people are.
9/11, Katrina, Oil Spike.
This does not defend him, but is only a fact.
I have to ask myself, what would I have done differently if I was in his shoes, at those moments, when the shit hit the fan? Would I have had a choice to made other decisions if my hands were already tied?
His hands were tied on 9/11, he had to retaliate. Maybe not Iraq, but someone had to pay. Americans wanted revenge.
The WMD’s could have been moved anywhere in the world before we got to them. Iraq had months of discussion in the U.N. to do something with them. They knew we was going to come regardless, (just a thought, no i can’t prove it, but it’s a legitimate thought).
He didn’t cause Katrina, it just happened, and no one was prepared for a catastrophe of that magnitude, nothing had been seen like it, or prepared for it in decades. It overwhelmed every agency from every angle, and it broke down.
This is further proof that we all need to have contingency plans for themselves for the worse case scenarios, because a few 100,000 National Guard and Red Cross Members cannot help millions. There is only so much time in a day. I am one of those people that would have picked up a chain-saw (even if my own house was destroyed, nothing I could do to change it, so I would have to make good till i could) and went to work helping my community.
Oil prices were a victim of the same Hurricanes, and a world economical powerhouse that was already maxing out. Oil was trying to keep up, but supply and demand ruled the wallets at the end of the day.
In a way, the recession is small break, it allows the world to catch it’s breath, and change what needs to be changed, so we can grow a larger world economy in the next phase. Saying it’s a small break does not mean I agree with lost jobs, growth and trillions of dollars of wealth being wiped out world-wide, just that it really couldn’t have been sustained much longer. Like a bald tire, you are eventually going to have a blow out, and with a blow out you lose time. So, you gotta change tires somewhere to get the next 60,000 miles!
Just how I see it, maybe I’m wrong, but that’s my thoughts on the matter. Contrary to popular belief, I welcome thoughts from people who think differently than me on this. It’s what makes this country so awesome, but I do think my opinions and arguments are sound.
It’s too early to tell, but I am afraid the new President will be a victim of history as well. If things aren’t perky perfect better in four years, everyone will blame him, and BAM! He will be voted out.
I personally believe that things can’t be fixed in four years, but that’s not how the voters are going to see it, they want results, NOW. It’s part of the commercialism psychology that has been pumped into our American Bloodstreams.
HR- Completely agree! Ask people in NOLA about their leadership during Katrina, and how they dropped the ball days before FEMA ever got involved. Bush did what he had to do after 9/11. Granted, I am not completely sold on invading Iraq, but, Congress approved (and continues to approve) of the ongoing activities there. Oil prices? Guess Mark doesn’t remember the oil shortages in the early 1970′s from price caps placed by government.
I do believe, though, that Obama has a free pass on this term. If things get better, he gets to say “see? My ideas worked…”. If not, he gets to say “well, it was so bad, even our ideas couldn’t fix them…”. Better or worse, he’s a 2-term President if he wants to be. At least he is surrounding himself with some intelligent people as he is coming around to reality on some things (as opposed to campaign promises he made).
Oh, and I was at Wal Mart last night. I could hear birds chirping from the trees near Mark’s house. I was parked by the middle entrance, too. Mother Nature needs a noise ordinance…
What would I have done if I were Bush?
9/11 – Walked away from reading the nursery rhyme (or whatever it was) and taken charge.
Taken the advice of the previous administration and gone after Osama.
Gas prices: Leaned on the oil companies to keep prices in line and required a MINIMUM of 50 MPG on all cars sold in the United States-Just as Obama should do now.
Katrina: Kicked FEMA in gear and spent the first month in New Orleans working with cleanup crews.
Iraq War: As soon as Saddam was captured, get out.
Afghanistan: Sent more troops there to catch Osama.
Health Care: Everyone gets a voucher to take to insurance companies who MUST cover EVERYONE with NO pre-existing condition exclusions. This IS NOT GOVERNMENT-RUN universal health care, it STILL is free-enterprise, it just means EVERYONE gets health care. How do we pay for it? No more war in Iraq, no more foreign aid. AMERICANS earn the money, we KEEP our money! Other countries are on their own. The jobs that would be created in health care will also end up paying for this.
Political talk means I’m punching out
I’m ready for the next question at the top…
Mark forgot to say if he was Bush that he would have mandated the buy-out of the Hurricane Wal-Mart neighbors @ 500% of the appraised values.
I am with Toby and Peachy.
Audios.
RF, how dare you try to drag the discussion back on topic? Do I have to get Contributing Editor Flipper to swim up there and kick some tail?
TW
Sorry! I was confused because I was trying to catch up on all three of the active MH threads! I must have posted this on the wrong one.
I meant to say that if Mark was Bush he would have mandated free extra cheese on the Taco Bell bean burritos for the Wal-Mart neighbors.
