I’m honored to bring you this guest post by Lee, the master of CrypticBullshit.com, who just this morning proved, beyond reasonable doubt, that Mark Hallburn is a huge, giant, epic liar.

See, you may remember a controversy a while back where someone Mark wrote a bunch of letters to his news Web site. When he was challenged about the veracity of these letters, he insisted up, down, left, right and sideways that he not only spoke by telephone to these people, but had scans of their valid West Virginia driver’s licenses to prove they were, in fact, who they said they were.

So, let’s fast forward to this morning.

Lee, a prolific blogger, decided to do a little investigatory work. Lee composed an e-mail, deliberately made it outrageous, occasionally peppered in a little ego stroking and e-mailed it off to the publisher to see if these verification techniques were actually true.

Anybody want to take a guess? Anybody?

Well, best to just let this play out.

Here’s the letter Lee sent our esteemed effing liar of a publisher.

Dear Mr. Hallburn,

Hello, I’m writing you to let you know Ms. Bland is not all who she portrays.

While scouring the internet for some news stories for my web page, I happened upon her blog where she is trashing you. I thought to myself, “This can’t be the same Jacque that I worked with”, after a few minutes, I found out it was.

I used to work at The State Journal with her. While she is a talented writer, she got to where she was by sleeping around. A friend of mine was up for a promotion at The State Journal, she had all the qualifications and had been there for a number of years. As soon as Ms. Bland was hired, we heard all sorts of rumors about her. Of course, I’m sure you know how newsroom gossip can spread and I really didn’t pay any attention to it. Sure enough, while in the break room one morning, I overheard a very prominent person who worked there stating, “That new girl, Jacque. She gives the best head I’ve ever had!” I about dropped my coffee when I heard that. This guy was married!! I don’t know if Ms. Bland was married or not, but I pretended not to overhear. At first, I thought it was just simple male bravado, but I kept hearing it over and over again through gossip and the same bravado.

It wasn’t long until she started flirting with me. I wasn’t exactly in a position to advance her career, but she tried to come on to me nonetheless. I politely told her I was happily married (still am!) and I didn’t appreciate her advances. In the rudest voice I have ever heard, she said, “Fine asshole!” and stormed off. I have never met such a spoiled person in my life.

Like yourself, I had to get where I am the hard way, and to think she now writes in Washington DC baffles me, but is not surprising. I’m sure there are plenty of happy males in that area! Ha! Ha! Ha!

Mr. Hallburn, she is not the person she portrays on her blog, trust me. She is a spoiled brat who would do anything (and anyone) to advance her career. It’s the classic case of a woman using her “assets” to get what she wants.

I find it appaling that just because you and your family want peace and quiet, she has the nerve to trash you. What’s also mind boggling is that all those people who comment on her blog do not understand what it’s like living in a noisy area, especially with construction noise! I can’t believe you had to put up with that all that time! You must have nerves of steel!

I do not support Ms. Bland’s immature comments about you. I do not support her “followers” comments about you and your family. The internet is a great tool. However, it’s being abused by the likes of her and her followers.

I thought you’d like to know the “real” Jacque Jo Bland. She gives journalists like yourself a bad name.

Now, I pride myself on having intelligent readers.

Surely … there are more than a few red flags in that letter, right? Things that would make a rational person stop and ask questions, correct? Definitely worth some time with Google, isn’t it?

Not to Mark. That letter was sent to Mark around 10:16 a.m.

At 11:06 a.m., Mark posted the letter, minus identifying details as a comment under the previous post.

At 11:02 a.m., Mark writes back to “Dennis” and says this:

Dennis:
I will publish your letter, less the sleeping around comments…. if you would like.

OK, kids, once more with feeling … Does anybody here, in any way, see any question of verification?

At 11:09 a.m., Mark again writes to “Dennis” with this:

Dennis:

I ommitted your name and posted YOUR letter on HER web site!
Too bad we can’t see the look on her face when she reads it!!!

Many thanks!

Again, that’s seven minutes later. After he requests no verification from the letter writer. No phone number. No driver’s license. Nothing.

At 11:18 a.m., Lee posts this:

Oh, you mean that letter from Dennis Mays? Cleveland, OH? Home of the Browns? thedevilindennis@yahoo.com?

Yeah, fuckstain. That’s me.

I just wanted to prove you don’t verify anything before you post.

You clearly don’t. And you believed it all. Hook, line and sinker. I just sent a copy to Jacque to back it up.

You’re an utter fucking retard. And an irresponsible one, too.

OK.

Let me clarify this … in case you’re having trouble following along. Mark absolutely believed that someone worked with me, absolutely believed the things the person said, and absolutely jumped at the chance to post it.

Now, at 12:47 p.m., the man who calls himself a journalist Mark posts this comment:

But I didn’t post it on my web site, because when I called two editors at The State Journal, all I got was voice mail.

Lee, you’ve been OWNED!!!!! Now YOU have admitted that you are a fake letter writer…. And you ADMITTED THAT RIGHT HERE ON GOW’s web site!!!!! Lee, to quote YOU, “You’re an utter fucking retard. And an irresponsible one, too.”

OK … is anybody but me having trouble following the logic here? Just a few short posts ago, I completely exposed you for posting under fake names, and now you want to point a finger at someone else, PutnamJohnny? Christy? Dave? Dennis3Kids? Dawn? LeeIsAFraud?

Really? ‘Cause we can play this game all day, Mark.

Re-read your e-mails to someone you believed to be a person ready to attack me.

You really expect any of us to believe you didn’t do this with reckless disregard and a portly little giggle at the thought of hurting my feelings? I knew it was coming. Lee’s been planning this for a while. There was no look on my face to relish other than the look of smug satisfaction of knowing you were a complete and total fraud.

Sure you didn’t post it to your own site. Who cares? More people read this site anyway, or you wouldn’t be so hard pressed to publish your vomit here. You wouldn’t have written me three or four times like some whiny schoolbrat wanting your chance to talk. You got your chance to talk. This is exactly what you get when you have that chance to speak.

Putnam County readers (and I know there are a lot of you), you need to tell your friends, tell your elected leaders and tell anybody else who may or may not advertise that this is the kind of person with which they’re dealing. You need to tell Debra Girimont you won’t vote for her as long as she has something to do with Mark and his reckless ways. You need to make sure people know, more so than they already do, they’re dealing with a complete and total fraud. I can’t make these changes. Only you can.
